Light Utility Vehicle Update: It has been a great year for ATVing in the north woods, with the cool summer weâve had. All of trails are in great condition. Sawyer County was one of the five counties in Wisconsin that allowed the side by sides on ATV trails during the two year test period/Pilot Program. That period will end September 30, 2009. There is a lot of confusion about this program. It is really very simple: In a nut shell all the state wants to do is to give counties/townships the ability to allow side by sides to go on route/roads if it is part of an existing ATV trail. We are in the process of getting the Proposal to replace the Pilot LUV Program approved. You can help with this by doing a few things: First, you can join the Wisconsin ATV Association who is working to get this done, the site for information on this program is www.wivtv.org. Second, you can go to www.legis.wisconsin.gov to find the state law maker in you area. Then contact them and ask them to support Senator Holperin with the new side by side program. It really helps for us to contact these law makers because the tree huggers certainly are. They are contacting him and telling them to not allow it and know nothing about it. If they knew that LUVâs are already allowed on the trails and this new legislative will only allow them to go on roads/routes where an ATV trail already goes; and set up a registration system, they wouldnât be so active. It will only take you a few minutes to contact your local lawmaker and describe your support for side by sides to use ATV trails!
