Dockery Lake Campground is a campground or RV park located in Dahlonega.
Georgia's national forests are said to be a hiker's paradise. Winding trails lead visitors through scenic mountains and rolling hills, by wild rushing rivers and cascading waterfalls. They also lead visitors through the history books: Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto's futile search for gold, the United States' first frenzied gold rush. The Cherokee Indians' struggle to hold on to heir lands, and major battles of the Civil War. Ten wildernesses, 1,367 miles of trout streams, and 430 miles of trails enrich the Chattahoochee National Forest. The famous 2,135-mile Appalachian Trail begins here and hardy hikers don't see the end until they reach Maine! Overlooking Dockery Lake and nestled deep off the side of a mountain, this recreation area offers camping, hiking, picnicking and fishing. The area offers 11 campsites with tables and tent pads. Hikers can enjoy the 3.4-mile Dockery Lake Trail, which provides access to the Appalachian Trail. Fishing in Dockery Lake is popular also. Check State fishing regulations before fishing. The picnic area offers six picnic tables. Lake Winfield Scott Recreation Area offers similar recreation opportunities and is located to the south of Dockery Lake. Dockery Gap Scenic Overlook offers another spectacular view of north Georgia, and Woody Gap offers a breathtaking view as well. The Appalachian Trail also can be accessed at Woody Gap. Suches and Dahlonega are interesting towns to visit also. Take Georgia #60 North from Dahlonega for 12 miles, turn right (east) on Forest Service Road #654 for 1 mile.
